Well, February was fun, wasn’t it? We had some interesting events that I’d like to follow up on with you.
The first unfortunately, was the Piano Men 2: Starring Jim Witter show on February 3 that didn’t happen. Jim was actually in the hospital, and needed to cancel/postpone all five of the Alberta performances he had scheduled that week. So, we tried to get in touch with everyone who had purchased tickets (HUGE thank you to Ticketpro staff for helping with that!!!) to say “please don’t come to the theatre… there’s no show”. I’m happy now to provide an update for everyone – Jim has been cleared to travel and start performing again, so we’ve re-scheduled our date. We’re very much looking forward to welcoming Jim back to Horizon Stage on Tuesday, May 16. Once again, the staff at Ticketpro have been helping us contact everyone with this new date. Here is the basic information you need. If you had a ticket for the original date and you are able to come to the new date, you don’t do anything special. You just bring your ticket to the theatre on May 16, sit in your chosen seat, and enjoy a long-awaited performance. However, if you are unable to attend the new date, we need to hear from you before March 15. You have 2 options at that point – you can exchange the tickets for another show in our current season, or we will offer a full refund. We really hope the new date will work for most people, but we understand that schedules are sometimes difficult beasts. After March 15, there may or may not be tickets available, so feel free to call us if you’re interested in purchasing tickets. We’re at 780-962-8995 or they will also be available online.
I was away for part of February, and I missed a couple of great shows – thanks to Marty Stevens of CFCW who hosted The Wardens, and David Wolanski our General Manager of Community and Protective Services who stepped up at Outerbridge: Clockwork Mysteries while I was gone. I heard they both did a great job. Ivan Coyote: Kraft Singles for Everyone and Ellen Doty rounded out what was a whirlwind month of variety. I’m very proud of the diversity of programming we are able to do at Horizon Stage, and that you all support the theatre.
The final note about the events of February 2017 is an adorable addition to the Horizon Stage family. David, our Ticket Centre Administrator, and his wife Danielle welcomed a baby boy on February 17. He is cute as a button with a head of wild dark hair, and we couldn’t be happier for them. Baby cuddles will be a regular feature in the office, we hope! Congrats to the new parents.
Looking ahead, March is going to seem quiet for our patrons, with only 3 season shows. Our Evening (and Afternoon) of Johnny Cash with David James and Big River shows on March 4 and 5 are both sold out, proving once again that Johnny’s still got it! March 11 brings us Wayne Lee – hypnotist – who we are eagerly anticipating. Wayne’s show is always entertaining. I laugh like crazy every time, and I applaud those who join him on stage. I think back to a few years ago when he was here, and remember the wife of one of our staff members who fell so quickly under hypnosis in her seat. It wasn’t long before she joined them on stage and entertained us. Being the above-mentioned new mom, we don’t think she’ll be doing a repeat appearance on stage - one of you are going to have to take her place… fun for everyone! As always, we love to hear from you at the City Hall Ticket Center or 780-962-8995. Have a great March!
