Second Duane Steele show added!
Here it is, mid-summer already. I can’t believe how quickly time is flying by. I hope you are enjoying the sunshine and getting a chance to relax a little. Playing golf, going camping, visiting friends and family. Maybe all of the above!
I want to take a moment to acknowledge how grateful the Horizon Stage team is for your support at the start of ticket sales for the 2017-18 season. We have seen so many of you already, with your brochures in hand. We love seeing the excitement and hearing the conversations about the upcoming artists. It’s always interesting to me to hear why people choose the shows they do, and it makes us happy to be able to give recommendations. We love helping you discover new artists.
Here is a quick update on how things are going so far. We have 3 sold out performances, 1 added performance, 4 shows that are more than half sold, and 12 more that are over one-third sold already, and we’re still 8 weeks from the season opening. It’s been a busy couple of weeks around here!
Ok - I’m going to address the elephant in the room. Ian Tyson sold out within one week, The Legend of George Jones featuring Duane Steele a few days later, and now Tom Jackson: Christmas 150 is sold out. We’ve had lots of inquiries about adding additional shows. Here’s the scoop. It’s not always possible to add more performances. Sometimes it’s a win, and sometimes it’s just not going to work for a variety of reasons. There are many moving parts, kind of like a game of Jenga, to balance everything. I will tell you, there will not be a second Ian Tyson show, so those who have tickets should consider themselves very fortunate. We anticipated it would sell out, but even we were surprised by how quickly it went, and we’re incredibly happy to open our 35th season with such a popular performer. There is no plan to add another Tom Jackson performance, so we would direct you to one of our other Christmas shows if that’s what you’re looking for, or call us for suggestions if you’re looking for a singer-songwriter style of music. We are, however, pleased to say we were able to secure a matinee performance for our George Jones/Duane Steele show on November 4. That one is already a little over a third sold, so I would advise you to pick up tickets soon if you want to join us for the 2 p.m. fun.
We have another update, this time about our summer camps. Our first round of FoOtlights Summer Drama Camps was a huge success. Acting I and II took place last week, and we’re happy to say our new instructors were a hit with the students. Amanda and Alison both bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to our program. They have one more session, Acting III in August – and I’m thrilled to say it is full. New this year, we ventured into film with Directors Cut camps – we unfortunately had to cancel the first camp, but the August 14-18 session is filling up very quickly. If you are looking for a super-cool week for your 7 – 10 year old, there are only a couple of spots left in this Lego/Clay Animation workshop. I wish I had known about camps like this when my kids were younger – they would have been all over it. It’s crafty, creative, and satisfies their technology craving without being the least bit passive. We think it’s a great combination. Registration is available online or by calling us at 780-962-8995.
I’m going sign off for now, and wish you a wonderful day. We’ll chat again soon - Cheers!
